When you ask someone in your business to help you in the process of recruiting prospects, one of the best ways to make them credible is to edify them.
In Network Marketing, edification is used to provide credibility for a person, event or company. Edification is simply uplifting or giving recognition to a person or event of importance in order to transfer, establish, or lend credibility.
Edifying Your Sponsor in 2 on 1 Meetings / 3 Way Calls
I still remember that when I first got started, this was the skill that was actually used to invite me to my very first Introduction meeting by a close friend of mine who invited me.
I did not know anything what was the meeting going to be about (I was curious but open minded)
So a day later, when I decided to take a look he started edifying the Presenter/Speaker who were are going to meet to share the project with me right away. He told me all these great things about him and why he decided to join the Business.
Well, I couldn’t wait to meet him and finally see what this exciting project was all about and how I might fit into this business.
In the beginning of the meeting, he told me that working with Carl was going to be the best thing I could do in the business. I said WOW the presenter must know something that I don’t know about my friend. I knew he was positive, ambitious and great already but he confirmed it. He spoke very highly about the company, the products and the group that we were going to be part of in the business.
So I was ALL IN by the time he finished showing me the information.
Edification starts at the point of your first contact with a new person. Start by relatable to that person.
Example a Young Student talk about Student Loans, Lack of Money and how is affecting them. Then say you seem pretty sharp do you keep your mind open to maybe doing something to get rid of that load in your spare time.
If you are bringing your new Guests to a Hotel meeting. The first thing to understand is to get people excited about meeting the speaker and or the host at a Hotel meeting. Their job is to edify you to your guest.
The biggest mistake I see some leaders make at meetings is they talk about themselves too much.
You as a person who brings a guest to a meeting is not to intro your new person to everyone in the room at first. Your job is to make them comfortable and not making them feel you are pushy.
Introduce them to your upline or host of the meeting before it begins. His or her job is to welcome them and tell them how lucky they are that you invited them.
After the meeting get them to meet the Speaker or Host. Their job is to ask them what they like the most about what they have seen (products/service, opportunity or both),
Usually, the speaker will say at the end of the Presentation get back with the person who invited you with the next 24-48 hours.
The process is also in your Presentation. The presenter should be edifying the Person who invited people, The company, The products/service and of course the compensation plan.
Example: If you were invited here for the first time don’t forget to thank the person who invited you to see this opportunity. How many people have ever offered you an opportunity? You usually see people turn to the person and Nod to them. This is doing something very powerful it is making the person who invited the new guest to feel good. It also makes the attendee feel like right no one ever has invited me to anything. It is all about lifting people up at all stages of the process.
Edify how the products made you feel and how it made others feel. Talk about how you feel about the company and how they are always looking to make things better for the people and the world. These are just a few things to understand at the presentation.
Edifying A Speaker/Trainer At An Event
The most attended event in the Network Marketing industry is the company opportunity meeting and it is used to expose prospects to the qualities of the company and training system. Teaching team members to properly promote and edify opportunity meetings is paramount if you intend to keep your organization growing. Most team members unconsciously de-edify the event by attempting to overcome attendance objections as they promote the function time and location. If handled properly, the event can be edified if you
(1) Reinforce the learning opportunity for attendees
(2) Point out the leadership abilities of the presenters
(3) Promote the organizational growth that will occur for all in attendance
(4) Point out the need to be a part of a winning organization
(5) Focus on relationship development
(6) Discuss your personal benefits received from attending prior events.
Event edification is no time to practice objection handling, inviting skills, or closing techniques and you should make sure you refrain from as well as teach this concept.
The most important thing to remember about event promotion is that you must edify the speaker so that your attendees respect them as a leader and accept their lesson as part of the road map to success. The easiest ways to edify a speaker is to
(1) Emphasize their achievements and experience within the organization
(2) Point out their success in other business areas of life
(3) Identify specific individuals that they personally helped within the group
(4) Mention their accomplishments in their community, church, etc.
You can also increase their teaching effectiveness by relating a personal story about how the speaker has in person or through one of their lessons helped you achieve a goal.
For your group to grow, you must understand edification, duplication, and association. Edification is the key. If proper techniques are learned, they will be practiced. As they are practiced, they will be observed by people within the organization. From that point, it is only a matter of time before others begin to duplicate the edification process. Momentum is conceived and with continued edification and duplication, a successful Network Marketing business will be born.
Duplicating Edification with your Team
Lastly, let’s talk about helping to duplicate Edification with your Team.
Remember it is always about the new person.
- What are they looking for?
- What are they struggling with?
- What are their goals and desires for the business?
You see this is something that you as an upline can learn if you are driving depth in your business and spending time with the people who really want it. When I do a follow up with a person who after the presentation said they wanted the Opportunity I can’t wait to sit with them
After learning some of the basic edifying techniques I started to use them in building my business. I watch my upline use these tips with people all the time from the stage to having coffee with someone, counseling or when showing the plan. Always talk and edify your new people and remember you are not the BOSS.
